It
doesn't snow at Dover. Built too close to the ocean, the salt
water in the air melts the snow before it gets a chance to fall out of
the sky.
Dover didn't reckon with the Hafeys.
We decided, in view of Eilis' chicken pox, to forego infecting people
we know at Church, and instead take a day trip on Sunday out to
Dover. The weather was fine when we got into the car, but then
the snow started to sprinkle, growing to blizzard proportions not far
out of Sidcup.
The snow didn't let up - even when we got to Dover. We talked to
the dinner lady at the White Cliffs Visitors Centre who told us about
Dover being too close to the ocean, and the bit about salt water.
She says it never snows at Dover. We talked to the man from the
National Trust, who also said it never snows in Dover, and if it does,
"it's nothing like this".
Still don't believe it snows in Dover?
Have a look at these photos!

This is the White Cliffs Visitors Centre. Not enough to convince
you yet, eh?

More snow at the Visitors Centre. In the left-hand photo you can
see the Harbour. Yes, snow this close to the ocean! The
English Channel, no less!

Here's some Ferries off to France

And some more - including the snow...

And yet another one (note the "Dover" on the docks)

These photos were taken from the Coach carpark below Dover
Castle. It doesn't snow at Dover...

These are from inside the Castle compound.

Nah - doesn't snow at Dover!

This is a 1st Century Roman Lighthouse built on the site of Dover
Castle. If I was previously amazed at things being about 1000
years old in England, imagine my flabbergastedness (is that a word?) at
things which are around 2000 years old! This lighthouse was
around while Jesus walked on earth!

A couple of Tunnels at Dover Castle. I like perspective
shots...oh, and it doesn't snow here...

Fancy dining al fresco? Not at Dover Castle! Too much snow!

Different views of the Roman Lighthouse plus an old gatehouse.
And snow...

This is an old Saxon-built Church called "St Mary's in the Castle" or
"St Mary Castro" (which means, oddly enough, "St Mary's in the
Castle"). They're currently renovating the bell tower.

A couple of different views of the walls of Dover Castle

We
weren't able to go inside the Castle due to the inclement weather, but
as we're members of "English Heritage" we're able to go again anytime
we like, at no charge. Hopefully we won't bring the snow next
time!
